Pittsburgh “Beaded Drape” Chamber Lamp in Blue Satin Glass - Extremely Rare
Circa 1900–1905 — “Beaded Drape”
The Pittsburgh Lamp, Brass & Glass Company, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Description
This authentic antique chamber lamp was produced by The Pittsburgh Lamp, Brass & Glass Company during the circa 1900–1905 period and stands among the firm’s most visually striking and technically refined patterned glass designs. Known as Beaded Drape, this pattern exemplifies Pittsburgh’s mastery of sculptural ornamentation and complex mold work during the golden era of American chamber lamp production.
The Beaded Drape pattern is defined by its flowing drapery motif accented with raised beaded elements, creating a richly layered surface with exceptional depth and movement. The intricate molding produces dramatic light interaction across the glass, giving the lamp a commanding presence whether displayed illuminated or unlit.
This example is executed in blue satin glass, an exceptionally rare and highly sought-after colorway within the Beaded Drape pattern. Blue satin examples were produced in very limited quantities and are seldom encountered on the open market. The cool, saturated blue tone combined with the soft satin finish enhances the sculptural detailing while lending the lamp a refined elegance that distinguishes it immediately from more commonly seen color variants.
The lamp is fitted with ornate brass-plated Pittsburgh hardware, including a decorative collar and handle elements that harmonize with the flowing glass form. These components are consistent with correct period production and underscore the lamp’s originality and high-quality construction.
This lamp falls within the category commonly referred to by collectors as a “Gone With the Wind” lamp, a modern descriptive term used to identify chamber lamps featuring both an upper and lower glass font. While not a period designation, the term is widely recognized in today’s antiques marketplace.
